New Equipment

Well, not much to update on at the moment. I thought I'd throw up a couple images of the new camera body that I took off the hands of a professor of mine. Now I have two bodies, a D70s as my main, and a D70 as my backup. They're much cheaper than trying to afford a D200 without a backup body. I've had too many friends get their cameras wet and end up having them crap out in a day.

This is what the 50mm lens looks like at f/1.8. Look at that short depth! I like it :-D

I like being able to control the focal depth to a great degree while not sacrificing the depth with a big heavy telephoto. I can carry that 50mm lens around in my pocket and never notice. It's lovely. Oh, and it comes in hand in low light (see below).

Here's the setup for the shot of my camera, could you have guessed it was in a shower/tub with a toilet bouncer?

Small apartments. Gotta love 'em.

Speaking of water, there was severe storming around the Michigan area the other evening and I was called out to shoot some breaking news about the rain/hail/flooding around campus. We lost power for around 10 hours or so and the kids in the dorms lost power for even longer.

The paper was a limited size due to the short time caused by the outage, but we still got a good photo page out of the deal. Gotta hand it to the photogs around here for really putting in effort.

I shot this photo of a truck trying to brave a very large puddle (we call these big puddles flooded roads).

Shot this with the 50mm because that 1.8 aperture gave me a little more play room with the very low light of a blackout. I really like shooting at low shutter speeds with interesting light. Getting to do things like this is always fun.
