Video

Video. Yes, video. It's a big part of photojournalism. More than you'll ever know. Well actually, you'll know because you'll be learning it as you go through college.

Video is huge right now and it's only going to get bigger. Screen grabs are happening much more often now. This means that SLR cameras are just a piece of the overall "bag of tricks" that a journalist needs to know. You could go out, gather video of an event and then just take a single frame and run it.

Who needs a fast shutter speed SLR when you have HD video.

I'm just learning video right now. Believe me, it's a big difference while still being very similar. Different style, same concept.

I don't want to go into depth too much. I don't really see the point to. It's just a matter of making the point that learning video isn't going to end your photo career. In fact, it will make you better at your job as a gatherer of information. And as a journalist. You will be getting moments just the same. That's the truly important part.
