Well it's looking like the process of portraits is continuing for me. I've been shooting a lot of them lately for class and for work. This post, and the next, will be about portraits and headshots and their commonality and importance to mastering as a photographer.
I'll restate that I am definitely not a "seasoned" professional photographer by any means. In fact I am still an amateur professional when it comes to the process and daily life at a newspaper. I shoot daily, but I am not a daily worker in the sense of the newspaper world.
Portraits are used in almost every issue. At least every week. They can easily make a point, but they can also easily kill a great idea when it comes to a story-photo combo.
I shoot lots of portraits for my college paper. Needless to say, if that's the case then it's likely that a larger scale paper will use them just as much if not more. The following are a couple portraits that I have taken recently for a class project. I'm not going to explain the lighting setup because I'm lazy. They're all a simple two light dealie.
These were for a series of portraits on high school valedictorians and star athletes.
These were for a series of portraits on high school valedictorians and star athletes.Very basic images. Simple, and easy. I should have done more, but I had limited time. I wanted to focus on the students and not make things so crazy that you got caught up in something else.
This was one of the first images I took. Really not much to say right now.
