Tee Off

Well this will be a much shorter post. Just wanted to throw this nice image up from today.

I had to take a quick portrait of a girl that will be competing at the state level in golf and I wanted to make it more than a blah portrait for the paper.

I didn't want to end up carrying a boatload of gear into the middle of a golf course though either. To remedy this... I used the sun as one of my lights. With a single flash that gave me two lights, the beginning of a studio type setup.

I only carried a light stand, cord, and flash (and cameras) out to the course for the shot. Took me a max of maybe 10 minutes to do the actual shooting and probably more time just to coax the girl into posing and stuff. She was very uncooperative. Probably due to nervousness more than anything else.

I think it turned out well. I wanted to put the sky behind her to give it a "champion" feel somehow. Shooting her from below, etc.

Flash on the right side, sun from behind and above. Eazy peazy.

Great photo for the paper. Much more interesting than a straight mug shot!
